Refiner's Fire

Today, in my vocal class, we learnt this song, Refiner's Fire.
The part of the song that caught my attention was the verse, 'Purify my heart'
The teacher asked us this 3 questions, 1.What is the overall mood/atmosphere of the song? 2.Were there certain lines that made an impression on you? 3.What is the core message of the song?
The first part of the verse, Purify my hear, those three words alone means alot.. I just thought about how unworthy I am and I feel like as we sing the song, I just felt brokeness and surrender.. And the teacher also told us about gold, Its first contains alot of layers of dirt and stuff and the refiner has to put the gold in the fire and let the layer melt, than take it out and throw away that unusable layer and put it in the fire again and again until he can see his face reflected on the gold.. Doesn't this sound like someone we know? With His eyes always on the gold to make sure the heat is just right and as we live, we'll go through many layers of life and slowly we will reflect more of our creator in our life!
Purify my heart
Let me be as gold and precious silver
Purify my heart
Let me be as gold, pure gold
Refiner's fire
My heart's one desire
Is to be holy
Set apart for You, Lord
I choose to be holy
Set apart for You, my Master
Ready to do Your will
Purify my heart
Cleanse me from within
And make me holy
Purify my heart
Cleanse me from my sin
Deep within
Cleanse me LORD, Purify me heart..
